Learn to Sing and Sign “Russian Folk Song”

Watch this video to learn a new way to enjoy the beloved lullaby "Russian Folk Song" using American Sign Language. "Russian Folk Song" is based on a poem written in 1928 by a six-year-old Russian boy to explain a picture he had painted of a shining sun and blue sky. Music Together's version adds good wishes for mommies, daddies, children, and music.

In the video, Camille Jeter-Lorello from the Katzenbach School for the Deaf, located in Trenton NJ, teaches a Music Together staff member the song’s signs. The signing is simple and easy to learn, and it truly adds another dimension to the song. The Katzenbach School for the Deaf participates in Trenton Community Music School’s Music for the Very Young program. Music for the Very Young brings the Music Together® curriculum to early childhood classrooms. Students and teachers participate together in weekly Music Together classes. Families receive the songbook and CD to continue the music making at home.

Have fun with this new musical activity!

*Russian Folk Song" is on the Music Together Lullabies CD, and the individual song can be downloaded from our web store for $0.99.
